Ecological rehabilitation and revegetation at the Fernlea project, Private Client

Client: Private   •   Date: 2019 - 2024

Gondwanan Ecosystems Management (GEM) was approached to restore an inherited grazing property to pre- agriculture ecology. To achieve this ambition GEM employed a range of known effective and trial weed management strategies to reduce infestations of African Lovegrass, African Boxthorn and Blackberry. A mix of direct seeding and tubestock planting was employed to restore native vegetation. GEM over saw the establishment of infrastructure on the property to facilitate events showcasing the work and for volunteers involved in working bees. One of the biggest wins for the Fernlea property was the receipt of a large amount of funding from Greening Australia that allowed for the rehabilitation of the main drainage line that was severely eroded to now being a chain of ponds that will provide exceptional amphibian habitat with pond designs specific to frog requirements including the natural treatment of Chytrid.
