Our Services

We offer a wide range of ecological and natural resource management services.

Through our thorough and careful approach applied to all our work and by ensuring we leverage natures own capacity to do or support our objectives, we ensure that all our clients meet their restoration, monitoring, conservation or compliance needs. If a service is not listed please get in touch.

Our services include:

Ecological and Biodiversity Monitoring

Ecological and biodiversity monitoring provide the basis for all decision making from threatened species management to feral species control or monitoring right up to landscape scale conservation. As such ecological and biodiversity monitoring is at the heart of everything we do and Gondwanan Ecosystems Management constantly seeks to improve our methodologies to increase our understanding and appreciation of natural systems.

Our monitoring services include:

  • Threatened species distribution and population estimates
  • General biodiversity surveys, to build a fundamental understanding of species and functional diversity, including for ecosystems rehabilitation outcomes
  • Feral species distribution, population and area of impact surveys with a view for informing management of current and potential future impacts

GIS Mapping

All of our projects employ the Esri suite of services for spatial association and understanding of environmental works, whether it is species distribution or extent of work completed. Gondwanan Ecosystems Management (GEM) has also worked with clients to undertake modelling of spatial distribution of species to determine potential areas to protect, from invasive species, or search, for target species. GEM has also employed modelling to inform population and species survivability and required management actions in response to stochastic disturbance events of varying scales.

GEM has capacity for aerial UAV site mapping with scope for NDVI analysis and when paired with sub metre accuracy ground mapping can produce incredibly detailed and accurate data sets for fine scale management.

Weed management and revegetation

A cornerstone of contemporary environmental management, weed control and revegetation are employed across all systems from urban environments to remote wilderness areas. Gondwanan Ecosystems Management (GEM) has access to a diverse range of techniques and equipment to suit any situation, from chemical controls to goat rotations and manual removal. GEM staff are experienced enough to work in the most challenging and inaccessible environments. GEM staff apply the same level of care and attention to weed and revegetation works as they do to highly complex mapping and monitoring projects, meaning we have a consistently high rate of success both in weed removal and revegetation works.

Ecological Burning

With our dedicated ecological burn unit we use best practice approaches to undertake small scale fuel reduction or regenerative burning. A thorough wholistic approach to ecological understanding reduces our risk of mismanagement around the use of fire for ecosystem benefit. Our experienced team have all supported wild and controlled fire activities through other organisations previously and use custom built and state of the art equipment to deploy and control fire activities.

Ecosystem Rehabilitation

Ecosystem rehabilitation is a particular passion for Gondwanan Ecosystems Management (GEM). GEM adopts a systems-based approach to rehabilitation, applying ourselves to first understanding the systems requirements and what is missing before leveraging what is present and working to boost the system back to what it should be. Our approach to ecosystem rehabilitation incorporates elements of our other services detailed here but orchestrated in accordance with an overall vision and approach plan that outlines the steps needed to facilitate the ecosystems capacity to restore itself. The approach often also includes seed collection and the growing of plants for revegetation works, and introduction or creation of habitat for varying terrestrial, amphibian and avian species. With experience designing, constructing and overseeing construction of habitat from nest log boxes and avian refuge to frog ponds designed to reduce the impact of chytrid GEM is more than equipped to meet your habitat construction needs.

Detection Dogs

Yatj and Yindi form an integral part of the Gondwanan Ecosystems Management (GEM) species detection team. Our kelpie buddies love nothing more than going bush and working with our team of handlers to find traces left by threatened fauna. Yatj is our primary spotted tail quoll detector while Yindi handles our Koala detections. Our dogs are highly trained and ready to take on new smells, we have capacity to train dogs to detect fauna spore scents or pungent plant scents. If you have a detection need that may suit our dogs please reach out and we can discuss the practicalities of training your desired scent.

EIA

Gondwanan Ecosystems Management has a highly skilled and trained team of natural values and environmental impacts assessors.
