With the end of native timber harvest in Victoria the State Government Gippsland Plantations Investment Program (GPIP) awarded Hancock Victorian Plantations (HVP) funding to increase plantation areas and fill the industry and resource gap. To fill the gap HVP have increased production by procuring farming properties that have both cleared land and remnant native vegetation areas. Under external and internal obligations HVP is required to understand, document and improve the native vegetation habitat areas on their properties. To ensure they had a thorough understanding of area, ecological vegetation class, habitat quality, conservation significance and any threatening processes (weeds) Gondwanan Ecosystems Management has been engaged to undertake desktop assessments with field data collection and verification to provide a spatial layer that HVP can use to understand management requirements for their native vegetation patches.
